Quality ~ Process control and SPC

Repeatability is critical in die casting. From the moment we invented the cam driven casting machine in the 1930s, the foundation of some of our proprietary technology, we’ve been committed to repeatability.

Dynacast has made radical and incremental improvements to our precision die casting machines to ensure they run under ever increasing precise controls. The evolution has moved from solid state through to PLC and now state-of-the-art PC control.

These controls ensure that sequencing and timing of operational steps run between predefined limits. Process parameters are monitored to ensure operations can be adjusted or automatically shut down if limits are exceeded.

Where needed, we apply Statistical Process Control. Dimensions requiring SPC will either come from our experienced engineers, or a direct request from a customer. It is applied to:

  • Key characteristics
  • Dimensions we believe may change over time
  • Other part characteristics that indicate process variables
  • Machine parameters

We insist on implementation of preventive maintenance and mistake-proofing techniques to raise levels of confidence, increase process capabilities and reduce the need for continual monitoring.
